A quick note: Today marked the best day at the UN I have yet had. In case you didn’t know, I am interning at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva. This is now my third week in the Palais des Nations and things are looking up! Although much of the past few weeks have been spent wondering what is really going on and if I actually have a reason for sitting there, today (and much of this week, really) I had a full purposeful day. I collaborated with a variety of full time staff on several projects, all very interesting. Right now I am especially excited about some data that a working group is looking at at investments in renewable energy. The larger frame for this work is to encourage what UNCTAD calls a “low carbon economy” and we are viewing investment in renewables as not only climate-friendly but a way to sustainable development. It is very interesting! I am also helping some staff put together an UNCTAD side event for the UNFCCC Climate Talks in Tianjin, China which are happening in a few weeks (as a precursor to the COP16 in Cancun, Mexico). Anyways, today has been good. Oh, and I also managed to eat approximately 2 bars of Swiss chocolate. AMAZING. I am looking forward to continued work on these interesting projects with interesting people and eating even more chocolate.
